INDEPENDENT HISTORICAL INVESTIGATION PART I

The Task:

Plan and conduct an historical investigation on ONE ancient society from the list provided.

In your presentation you MUST demonstrate your understanding of the following:

 

  • Formulate a question which will enable you to undertake an historical investigation.
  • You should demonstrate an understanding of the significance of the historical period through a careful analysis of sources and historical interpretation. Your sources MUST include both books as well as online sources. 
  • SUBMIT a 1200-1500 word essay of your findings.
  • The archaeological and preservation methods used; and obstacles encountered
  • You must include a proposal, an annotated bibliography of 6 sources (2 archaeological, 2 primary, 2 secondary) indicating their significance to your research. See sample provided.
  • Your essay must include footnotes. See guide below for instructions.
  • Attach your annotated bibliography and bibliography to the essay. You should demonstrate an understanding of the ancient society through a careful analysis of sources and historical interpretation. archaeological and preservation methods used; and obstacles encountered

INSTRUCTIONS:

As part of the syllabus requirements it is compulsory for you to undertake independent historical research. You will be given class time to work on your research in class. It is up to you to be organised and manage your time wisely to put this together by the due date. You must bring all your equipment to class with you. This will be an opportunity for your teacher to assess your progress and seek assistance.

You will need to access the internet as well as libraries.

You have to demonstrate maturity and self-discipline when conducting thorough research.

You need to bring ALL the required equipment with you to class: laptop, tablet, books, articles, journals. If you do not have a laptop the school may loan you one depending on availability. If you do not bring the required equipment there will be additional writing tasks required of you to complete during class time. Unfortunately without the aid of a computer or your books and materials you will not be meeting the requirements of the course. 

PLEASE NOTE: THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL IS AN INTEGRAL ELEMENT OF YOUR HISTORICAL INVESTIGATION AND WILL CONTRIBUTE 5% TOWARD YOUR FINAL ASSESSMENT MARK.
