Welcome to Ancient History Independent Historical Research website
Throughout history many nations have suffered a physical defeat, but that has never marked the end of a nation. But when a nation has become the victim of a psychological defeat, then that marks the end of a nation. - Ibn Khaldun 14th century
If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday. ~Pearl Buck
To write history is as important as to make history. It is an unchanging truth that if the writer does not remain true to the maker, then it takes on a quality that will confuse humanity.
- Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
INDEPENDENT LEARNING REQUIRES SELF-DISCIPLINE
SIGNIFICANCE - Why this matters. Historiography is the study of history writing. As historians make new evidence and interpretations available debates and new understandings of the past become possible. In this task, students conduct their own investigations to understand the process of history writing and how it influences explanations about individuals and their times.
Why is it important to reconstruct the past from archaeological and ancient sources? How does this provide historians scope for fresh interpretations?

Nero; Did he burn down Rome?
Mohamed.Akawee | 04/28/2017
Throughout this week i have mainly been working on Tutankhamun. Not much progress has been made on Nero at all however I have completed my introduction and begging to formulate all three of my body paragraphs. Through doing this however I have also come to the realisation that i need more secondary sources to add to my debate ranging from around a millennial ago.

Today I got my marks back for Steps 1 and 2 and aimed to improve my results. Although I had permission to move on, i still preferred to aim for better marks as it is crucial i do the best i can because these marks will contribute to my final mark. I also reviewed my website and learnt some new techniques to format my website. I am hoping by next week, i will have the first three questions of my website completed, i will have completed steps 1 and 2 extensively, steps 3a and 3b.
struggling with finding primary sources
Sara Alshara | 03/31/2017
Although I found all information needed to start part 3 I am having problems with finding primary sources that suggest the reliability of my essay. I've only found one source which is a numismatic evidence suggesting that most of Claudius's decisions were influenced by his wife. I've started constructing my intro and I think that it is going well. Next week I want to order some books relevant to the research to see if primary sources are available.
Term 1 - Week 10: Research Log
Mohammed Safi | 03/31/2017
Although I was fairly productive this week, the induction of the new topic and the website has taken some emphasis off of the research task. I was satisfied with the feedback I received from Steps 1 and 2 and hope to improve on that in the future. However, in regards to the research task I aim to improve my output after I clear most of the website out of the way.
further research and understanding
Isra | 03/24/2017
This week allowed me to gather up the points to my essay, and establish which sources will be the most useful to my research, and which are irrelevant.
By doing this, I have established a clear vision of what I'm going to write, and how I'll be going on about it.
I further found out the significance of legalism within the Han Dynasty, and went into more depth with significant figures such as Zhou at the time.
Tomorrow, I have planned to do my introduction and parts 3a) and 3b).
Alexandria
Eyman | 03/24/2017
Since it was quite difficult to find sources for the Library of Alexandria, Metin helped me found websites with primary sources. After completing my research and maintaining an understanding of why the library was built, who built it etc, I started step 3A and began to find sources. I found one image of scrolls in the library and another image of an illustration of the destruction of the Library. I need a few more sources and then I'm ready to move on to step 3B
I didn't do much this week
Omar Khanji | 03/24/2017
In all honesty, I have been very excited and consumed by the History competition the group and I are working on.
In regards to the essay, this week I completed some more background research which enabled me to complete step 3A, which focused on the primary sources in relation to Socrates' perspectives.
Step 3B will be completed over the weekend and I plan to complete step 4 before I leave for Malaysia and abandon all of you and go party on 31/03/2017.
The character of Claudius
Sara Alshara | 03/17/2017
This week I finalised some of my research and linked ideas about Claudius's character using secondary sources. Claudius was a benign man as he was seen as a fool defined by his family. Claudius when became emperor he reflected his personality providing a very intelligent and critical character relying on liberal science to run his nation. Claudius before his rule was presented as weak but entering the responsibilities of becoming a character he was cruel to those who opposed his governing. Next week I want to look through primary sources that help answer my questions.
